Spectacular Simplicity in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere
Lindsey and Shaun’s Tulum destination wedding in the Sian Ka’an Biosphere might be my wedding highlight for 2014. Flashback to earlier in the year, when our paths first crossed. It all started on an average beach day – Anna had gone for a walk and I was playing with our oldest daughter, Isabella, on the beach.
Looking for some shade, I walked down the beach to a palm tree where we started to play together in the sand. That’s when Lindsey came over to say “hi,” shortly followed by Shaun and his son Jackson. We talked, had a good time and simply enjoyed the beach and getting to know each other. Anna joined the group a short time later and eventually talk turned to what we all did for a living. Serendipitously, Lindsey and Shaun were planning their wedding for later in the year. Naturally, Anna and I were all about helping our new friends in any way we could.
The couple had visited Mexico many times from their home in Austin and knew the area well. After some research, Lindsey and Shaun selected one of the most unique places in the world to have their wedding: the Sian Ka’an Biosphere, a beautiful home on the Caribbean Sea and situated just south of Tulum. Located 10km from any pavement, the house is beautiful and the setting is spectacular.
Come W-Day, the décor and set-up were simple and elegant…the perfect match for the location and Lindsey and Shaun’s personalities. The couple exchanged vows on the beach and surrounded by their loved ones. Lindsey walked down the aisle in a dress by Olvis and looked simply stunning. After being pronounced “man and wife,” the newlyweds moved the celebration up to a quaint, sandy area next to the house. Because the venue doesn’t allow any outside florists, all of the beautiful centerpieces and floral details were created using flowers found on property (aside from the bouquets).
I am so happy to share this wedding with all of you! Lindsey and Shaun are two of the kindest, most generous people I have met in a long time and I hope we continue to be friends with many more beach days to come. Only next time, we will have two little girls for Jackson to play with.
Enjoy,
Dean Sanderson
