Maxine and Rishi’s Secrets Maroma Wedding in the Riviera Maya Mexico
It was an absolute pleasure to be part of Maxine and Richi’s wedding and one that I will remember for a long long time. When I showed up everything was going normal. Styling Trio, the makeup team, had done their magic and all the girls were looking amazing. The bridal party was big and fun… I photographed the girls while Agni photographed the guys.
THEN I showed up to the ceremony and there was a little confusion going on. I asked Rishi what was happening and apparently the resort thought Maxine and Rishi had brought their own minister. Yup, 5 minutes before the ceremony and there is no minister. It was a symbolic wedding ceremony, meaning that they did not need a judge or priest, but they did need someone to preform the ceremony. Luckily, one of the best men stepped up to the plate and said he would be more than happy to do it…
Yes, Rishi had two best men. I guess, when you have two guys that qualify, there is no reason to not have them both be the ‘best man’…
Rishi’s best man stepped up and was the minister for the wedding, which lead to the next priceless moment. No one was able to tell Maxine before she walked down the isle. So she walks down the isle with her father (which is a beautiful moment that you can see in the photos… Rishi has tears in his eyes. Her father is as proud as can be and she is looking absolutely beautiful…). And when she gets to the end, the best man looks at her father and her and asks “Who gives this woman in marriage?”
There was a bit of confusion, but her father answered and gave over his daughter to be married. Then a little priceless moment happened where Maxine looks at Rishi and asks what’s happening? Rishi then leans over and says “Don’t worry baby, I will explain later.” … I think it took all the groomsmen’s might to not break out into laughter. Well, I know I had to move away before laughing…
Then the ceremony began. It was the first time the best man had read through the ceremony… And I should probably explain where the text for the ceremony came from. Well the guys did a google search on their iPhone. A quick read and decided they found a good one and went with it…
And, he did amazing! I’ve been to about 250 weddings here on the coast and honestly, he did a better job than most of the ministers I have heard. He made it fun, he read it really well (especially considering it was the first time he had read through it) and everyone enjoyed the ceremony. It had all the love, joy and emotion of any other wedding I have been to. It was a truly memorable ceremony… for all the right reasons!
In fact, in talking with the guests after, they did not realize that anything was wrong. They thought that it was the plan to have the best man to present the ceremony. In short, it was awesome…
This is a bit different than my regular post that goes with a wedding… but I really wanted to tell this story for a couple reasons. First, I love how they went with the flow and enjoyed themselves. This is so important when having a wedding here in Mexico. Not everything is going to go as planned and when you can learn to enjoy the moments that are not going as planned, in my opinion, that is when true happiness exists. It’s easy to be happy when things are going as expected… but if you can find happiness in the unexpected, that’s where true happiness resides.
The second reason I tell this story is to encourage you to bring your own minister. If you have someone in your entourage that you think can preform a ceremony… please ask them. In every single case I have seen where a couple has their own minister, that person absolutely loves performing the ceremony. And in my opinion, ceremonies seem much more special when they are preformed by someone you know.
Finally, please take the time to look through their photos. Maxine and Rishi did a great job of letting go and relaxing in front of the camera. I cannot thank them enough for trusting us to capture their day!
Thank you and enjoy!
